About SOEL
At your own pace
The name SOEL is inspired by the Japanese word 添える (soeru) — meaning "to stand beside" or "to gently accompany." It reflects our belief that healing doesn't come from being told where to go, but from having someone walk alongside you with empathy, respect, and steady support. That belief shapes everything we do.
SOEL Counselling & Wellness is a counselling and wellness practice offering a safe, culturally attuned space for clients living abroad, with a particular focus on Asian women. Living between cultures brings new possibilities, but also a kind of loneliness and uncertainty that can be hard to put into words — the sense of not fully belonging anywhere, or the quiet exhaustion of striving for perfection. We meet these experiences with both clinical expertise and cultural understanding, never rushing anyone toward a destination that isn't theirs to choose. Therapy at SOEL honours each person's own pace and background, and is offered bilingually in Japanese and English — always alongside you, never ahead of you.
Yasuko Asano, MACP.
I specialize in individual and couples counselling, working with anxiety, panic, postpartum depression, and the challenges of navigating life across cultures.
In my practice, I believe in walking alongside my clients rather than telling them where to go. Everyone moves at their own pace — and I hold that pace with care in every session.
I born and grew up in Japan and lived North America for over 25 years. I am a mother and I’ve also experienced significant loss in my own life — and that’s given me a grounded, lived understanding of grief and the quiet isolation that can come with living far from home.
Fun fact: I’m very much a dog person🐾
